Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin

pete the catPete the Cat is one cool cat. He enjoys life and all that it holds. He loves his shirt with its four groovy buttons. When one pops off does he get upset? No! He just “keeps on singing”. Litwin’s words and the art work of James Dean have combined to create a new rock star in the literary world. Read one or read them all. You will love Pete the Cat.

Level: PrK-1st

I think you already have realized that I love Pete the Cat. I just discovered him yesterday while asking our librarian what I could read for story hour today. She was shocked that I was unaware of Pete. Being a 2nd grade teacher, he is a little young for my students but non-the-less cool. We often get so wrapped up in our level, that we miss out on some great books. Yes, Pete is cool, he is fun, he sings, but he also presents a simple message or lesson in each title. Pick up Pete. At any age, you won’t be disappointed. He will get you singing!

Suggestions for Use:

I will be sharing this title during story hour today at our school library summer program just for the fun of it. We will talk about the importance of “stuff”. With all the tornado damage lately, stuff seems the least important. Pete would agree.

At the beginning of the school year, I plan on reading Pete the Cat, Rocking in his School Shoes. This title will take us all over school and acquaint the children with their new surroundings much like Miss Nelson is Missing. With that title we head out around the school following clues to find Miss Nelson. Where will Pete’s shoes take us?
